This technique was created by James Macanufo as a variant on the rule-breaking lateral thinking exercise. You take a difficult problem and make it apparently impossible – go from low-budget to no-budget, for example. Oddly, the tighter constraints can be more liberating, forcing you to consider wilder ideas to get round the seemingly impossible barrier.
